6 Questions for Partnerships Manager Matt Davy

6 Questions for Partnerships Manager Matt Davy

I am Matt Davy, Partnerships Manager for NZME. I work as part of the Partnerships team working across and managing a portfolio of partnership events across our radio, print and digital platforms. As a team, we identify opportunities for partnerships, manage a portfolio of clients and assist our regional teams around the country. Outside of work, I love to travel  - spend days at the beach or the gym and get out to as many concerts, festivals, sport and general events as I can!

Talk us through your average day

Every day is different but generally there is often a lot of meetings, both internal and external. As part of managing a portfolio of clients, I make sure that i’m constantly in touch with them all. Working with the promotions, content/editorial, sales and marketing teams to plan, strategize and execute activity is all in a day’s work.

What has your career path been like? How did you get here?

I always loved the radio and was a frequent caller to try and win prizes, when I realised that I could have a career on the radio that was that. Pretty much straight out of school I was signing up to broadcasting school and then landed an internship in the Coromandel, a two week internship turned into six months - which then turned into a Breakfast announcing gig in Ashburton and then promotions roles around the country. I was always prepared to go wherever the work was, and I honestly think that is really important and you should never limit yourself to one location. Following that was Sydney, working for a station called Nova as the National Integration Project Manager. Moving back to New Zealand, I moved to Hamilton in a regional Brand Engagement Manager role for NZME in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty and then I got an opportunity to make the move up and i’ve been here since.

What would you say are the best and worst parts of your job?

For me the best part is having the ability to come up with an idea, whether it’s a promotion, a piece of content or a particular look for a marketing piece - when it comes to life that’s a really awesome feeling and it’s very fulfilling. NZME as a company has a great company culture and there’s a great bunch of people working across the business. The worst parts, well there isn’t a lot. Any job has its days I guess. There is a bit of juggling involved with a number of projects on the go at once, but you quickly become a pretty good juggler.

What do you see your job like in 10 years? Do you think it will change?

Absolutely, change is always happening and I think change is great as long as you embrace it positively. The types of things that are considered partnership benefits have changed over the last 10 years and I am sure they will continue to change. Looking into the future, I can see even more focus on digital and social media solutions, we are embracing new technology as well which will pave the way for an exciting future.

What’s your work WHY? What lights you up?

Project management spins my dials, I enjoy the process of managing a project from conception to execution and that’s a key part of this role - lucky me!

What’s your best achievement to date?

I won a few radio awards earlier in my career which is quite the acknowledgement of a project well done in this industry, when you come up with an idea and put a lot of hours in to that project it’s a really nice feeling when it does get acknowledged. Every time I have a happy client and a successful event, that's an achievement in itself.
