When did you join NZME and what was your first job?

I began my career working as a casual with our opposition (Mediaworks) in Christchurch while also hosting multiple shows on local Christchurch station Pulzar FM (which is now on iHeartRadio!) The first proper roles I had were in the Mediaworks Wellington and Network Promotions teams. I took a leap of faith in 2012 moving from Mediaworks Auckland down to Christchurch to start as a Promotions Coordinator for all TRN radio brands.

What other roles have you done along the way those lead you to where you are now?

Senior Promotions Coordinator – Christchurch

Brand Engagement Manager – Christchurch/South Island Regions

Senior Account Manager – Central Otago, based in Queenstown

Senior Brand Engagement – ZM Network

Now: Brand Manager – News and Sport

How did you progress into new roles?

I kept looking for ways to improve and expand upon what I was doing each day. If opportunities didn’t present themselves I would pester people, or suggest things we could be doing to improve projects. In each job, I have found pockets of things which I love and worked out what I don’t love. Mostly, I’ve pushed myself forward by connecting with other interesting people around the business and maintaining open relationships with other departments and regions. It’s amazing how others around the business will go out of their way to endorse and help you. People do genuinely enjoy helping.

Best part of your workday?

Coffee!  I really like meetings (controversial comment). I enjoy speaking with people about interesting projects which we can move forward together. Getting things moving and making a difference, or creating something exciting through work is what keeps me on my toes.

Your office rocks because...

My workmates from all around the company genuinely feel like my friends and family. I am surrounded by passionate, interesting and driven people. The radio is always on! Music is a huge part of my life, I love working in the kind of environment NZME fosters.

Why do you love NZME…

NZME empowers its people to do what’s right and encourages us to speak up. We’re lucky to be able to exercise our opinions and use the power of our personal voice in this company

.Do you have any advice for people wanting to progress their career at NZME?

Let people know where you want to be. Keep communication lines open and be willing to learn from everyone you meet. Most importantly, take advantage of the awesome industry we work in. Not many people get to say they work for one of the biggest media companies in the country. Things like hot desking between departments, learning from other people around the business and just making yourself familiar with all the amazing things we do will help inspire you (you to finding an exciting new avenue you want to explore)!
